Kids and Canines

The latest group of Golden Retriever puppies to arrive on the campus of Dorothy Thomas School is the “K” Litter. All the pups were given names that begin with the letter "K". Many of the dogs are named after former students that have graduated a dog in the program. The pups names are Kaylee, Kenny, Kentae and Kevin. These puppies joined the Golden Retriever and Labradoodle “J” dogs . The "J" dogs are named Jasmine, Jeffrey, Jesse, Joanie, Joey, and Josh .

These puppies will undergo training by students at Dorothy Thomas, under the constant scrutiny of Jennifer Wise, Kids and Canines Program Director and Mary Maas, Assistant Program Director.

The training for the puppies continues until they are approximately two years old. Then the dogs graduate as certified assistance dogs and become available for placement.

As a dog trainer and dog behaviorist, Edel Miedes of K9 ADVISORS, a professional dog training school that does in-home obedience dog training and K9 protection dog training in South Florida, supports pet assistance programs such as this one.
